Mr. Vazquez is a Harvard-trained attorney with a wide range of experience representing business owners, medium-sized and Fortune 100 companies and large government agencies.

Mr. Vazquez began his legal career with Matthews, Nowlin, MacFarlane & Barrett (now Cox Smith Incorporated) in San Antonio, Texas and was a partner at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, LLP. Mr. Vazquez also served as Senior Counsel to the law firm of Holland & Knight, LLP. He joined Stumpf Farrimond, P.C. in 2007.

Among his clients are Mexican and Japanese-based companies with substantial manufacturing operations in the U.S. and in Mexico in the auto parts and petrochemical industries. He provides general legal advice and counsel relating to all aspects of a client's business operations. Among the services he provides are (i) advice on general labor and employment issues; (ii) negotiation and preparation of contracts, international distribution agreements, license agreements and commercial leases; (iii) negotiation of joint venture and strategic alliance agreements; and (iv) formation of legal entities.

Mr. Vasquez was reared in San Antonio, Texas. He enjoys reading, music, percussion instruments, and theater. Mr. Vasquez has traveled extensively in the United States, throughout Europe and in Mexico. He is fluent in Spanish and able to write documents in business Spanish; has a fair knowledge of French; and is currently studying conversational Japanese.

Selected Litigation/Transaction Highlights

  • Won a summary judgment in federal district court dismissing an employment discrimination suit based on age and national original under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

  • Won a summary judgment in federal district court dismissing employment discrimination claims under Title VII and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • Represented the Government of Bolivia in the privatization of its oil and gas properties, a project financed in part by the World Bank; also led team of attorneys who represented the Government of Bolivia in the restructuring of the Bolivian pension system and the drafting and enactment of a new national pension law.

  • Conducted an independent internal investigation on behalf of the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors of a Fortune 50 company in the conduct of an independent investigation of the company’s Mexican operations to determine compliance with company policies, accounting standards and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission requirements.

  • Represented a large public utility in public sector labor negotiations and employment discrimination claims.

  • Over 30 years experience representing employers in all aspects of labor and employment law.

  • Corporate business representation involving investigation, litigation and settlement of disputes involving: Americans with Disabilities Act, Corporate Downsizing, Employment Discrimination, Environmental, Health & Safety, Industrial Accidents at corporate job sites, Worker's Compensation, and Wrongful Death, and Wrongful Termination matters

  • Represented a large multi-national company in general labor and employment law issues in Texas, including an OSHA investigation of an explosion at the company's manufacturing facility.

  • 30 years experience in all aspects of cross-border transactions, primarily in Mexico and in Latin America.

  • Represented foreign clients conducting business in the United States in international business transactions and mergers, joint ventures and strategic alliances involving public and private companies.

  • Represented domestic and multinational corporations in the auto parts manufacturing, petrochemical and high technology industries, as well as one client in the development, design, operation and ownership of leisure entertainment, recreational and resort facilities.


  • Represented foreign individuals and multinational corporations in matters related to distribution agreements, importation agreements, issuance of debt, joint venture agreements and franchising agreements and in the acquisition of real properties and other investments in the U.S.


  • Over 30 years experience in the public finance field serving as bond counsel, underwriter's counsel, user's counsel and special counsel in various types of municipal finance transactions for cities, counties, multi- and single-family housing issuers, municipal utility districts, industrial development corporations, school districts, hospital districts and state-wide issuers.


  • Considerable experience with the City of San Antonio, Texas; participated as bond counsel, underwriter's counsel or in other capacities for 10 issues for the City for an aggregate amount of more than $1.92 billion, including $521.1 million as bond counsel or co-bond counsel and $1.34 billion as underwriter's counsel or co-underwriter's counsel.
